Rebels Fall In District Championship Saturday Night

Cinderella's slipper was not enough for Franklin Saturday night as they fell in the District 11-AAA Championship game to top-seeded Independence 67-52. Franklin fell behind early before cutting a twenty-one point lead down to twelve midway through the third quarter. A three-pointer that would've cut the lead to nine was off the mark and the Rebels would never get any closer. It was a nice recovery for the Rebels, who have struggled since the calendar flipped to January. In 2016, the Rebels were winless until a stunning upset of second-seeded Brentwood propelled them into the semifinals of the tournament. A thrilling 49-48 win over Dickson County Friday night sent Franklin to the finals before losing to a very talented Independence team. Sophomore Evan Sigler and freshman Reece Glover were both selected to the All-District Tournament Team for their play this weekend. Franklin will advance to the Regional Tournament on Saturday when they take on Hillwood at Cane Ridge High School. Tip-off is set for 8:00.
